Enhanced Surface Movement RadarTwo new Surface Movement Radars (SMRs) have been installed by AirNav Ireland at Dublin Airport to replace the old SMR. SMRs are a vital component for the safe and efficient running of a modern busy airport such as Dublin Airport. The new SMRs located North and South of the airfield are the most modern and cost effective available, and are fully solid state. This allows for cost savings in the form of reduced maintenance periods, and reduced power consumption. In fact the SMRs are capable of transmitting only in the areas required and the selected transmission pattern of 180 degrees is directed toward the airfield only. This has a significant overall power reduction when compared to the existing SMR, and reduces the carbon footprint, and environmental impact of the new SMRs when compared to older systems. The new SMRs are part of the upgrade of our state of the art Ground Movements Surveillance System. |
