Operational Requirements

Operational Requirements

The Operational Requirements Domain is responsible for planning and developing integrated operational requirements for the provision of Air Navigation Services. The domain consults with all the relevant stakeholders involved in defining the necessary requirements for the procurement of new Air Traffic Management (ATM) systems and sub-systems.

Specialised requirements like Human Machine Interfaces (HMI) for use by Air Traffic Controllers (ATCOs) in the day-to-day Air Traffic Control (ATC) operation, communication interfaces, ATCO consoles and backup systems require research and analysis before finalisation of requirements. Operational testing and evaluation of new and changed systems is undertaken by specialists to ensure conformance with requirements before operational commissioning. System lifetime cycle is also supported.

The harmonisation of ATM systems and operational methods with other air navigation service provider (ANSP) partners is a major goal of AirNav Ireland to help improve safety, reduce costs and enhance capacity in line with European Union Single European Sky requirements.
