Continuous climb & descent operations improving environmental performance through smarter flight profiles
Continuous Climb Operations (CCO) and Continuous Descent Operations (CDO) help aircraft reduce fuel burn, emissions and noise by minimising level flight during departure and arrival. AirNav Ireland works with airlines, airports and EUROCONTROL to maximise these operations where operationally possible.2025 Highlights
More than half of all arrivals at Cork and Shannon achieved Continuous Descent Operations.
More than one-third of arrivals into Dublin achieved Continuous Descent Operations.
Around 80% of departures from Dublin, Cork and Shannon achieved Continuous Climb Operations.
Performance data is independently produced by EUROCONTROL.
What is Continuous Climb Operations (CCO)?
Continuous Climb Operations (CCO) enable aircraft to climb continuously after take-off, to the greatest extent possible, using optimum engine thrust until reaching cruising altitude. This reduces fuel consumption, carbon emissions and noise.
What is Continuous Descent Operations (CDO)?
Continuous Descent Operations (CDO) enable arriving aircraft to descend continuously, using minimum engine thrust and avoiding unnecessary level flight wherever operationally possible. This reduces fuel burn, emissions and aircraft noise.
