Subject: Exemption on 8.33 kHz Channel Spacing – Shannon FIR
The Irish Aviation Authority (IAA) has acknowledged the issues raised transitioning the voice radios to 8.33kHz spacing and an exemption has been granted to the requirement for 8.33 kHz channel spacing frequency assignments within the Shannon FIR, as outlined in Article 3(f) of Regulation (EU) 2017/373.This exemption is effective immediately and will remain in effect for a number of months. It is intended to support a safe and coordinated transition to 8.33 kHz channel spacing while maintaining operational continuity.
Retention of 25 kHz Channel Spacing:
Voice frequency assignments currently operating at 25 kHz, which have limited impact on the network, will remain valid during the exemption period.Phased Transition Plan:
The State will implement the transition to 8.33 kHz frequency assignments described in ENR 1.8.7 on a phased basis, in close coordination with airfields and aircraft operators.Ongoing Review:
All frequency assignments will remain subject to continuous review by the National Frequency Manager.Next Steps
AirNav Ireland will engage with stakeholders to ensure a smooth transition and address any operational considerations. Your collaboration is essential to achieving this transition to 8.33kHz spacing in a safe and efficient manner. If you have any questions or require clarification, please contact the National Frequency Manager or [email protected].
Thank you for your continued cooperation and support
