Job Title: Mechanical and Electrical (M&E) Engineer

Job Purpose
The Mechanical and Electrical (M&E) Engineer will work within the M&E Domain and/or other Domain in the Technical Services Directorate as business needs require. The role is responsible for supporting the design, implementation, operation, maintenance and continuous improvement of AirNav Ireland’s M&E infrastructure supporting ATM systems.

M&E systems in AirNav’s functional system include Electrical systems such as UPS, Generator, Power Distribution and Power Management systems, and Mechanical systems such as Building Management Systems (BMS), Chillers and Air Handling Units (AHUs). The successful candidates will contribute to ensuring high availability, resilience and performance of M&E systems across AirNav Ireland sites. This includes supporting operational M&E systems, implementing new M&E systems and services, conducting M&E system testing and maintaining strong vendor and service provider relationships.

The role involves working with mission-critical infrastructure and requires adherence to safety, security and regulatory procedures and requirements applicable to ATM environments. The successful candidates will be a member of the Technical Services team and will provide ATSEP Level B M&E system support to the operational system. They will provide out-of-office-hours support within the context of the AirNav engineering technical call out scheme.

AirNav Ireland maintains an ATSEP Competency and Licensing program. ATSEP Level B is the competency level required for engineers operating and/or maintaining operational air traffic control equipment. AirNav Ireland Technical Services will provide all training and resources required to achieve the appropriate ATSEP Level B rating.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide technical design support for M&E infrastructure solutions across ATM systems and services
  • Perform software and hardware upgrades of M&E systems
  • Configure and deploy new M&E services
  • Support technical testing, validation and reporting, including system performance and resilience testing
  • Analyse and resolve faults in a real time environment
  • Carry out corrective and preventative maintenance duties and restoration of equipment/systems to service in the event of failure.
  • Communicate with key stakeholders expected return to service timescales of equipment and systems.
  • Maintain accurate technical documentation, configurations and asset records
  • Support compliance with safety, security and regulatory requirements in operational environments
  • Carry out change management duties in line with the company SMS
  • Work closely with cybersecurity teams to ensure secure M&E system design and operation
  • Support vendor and SLA partnership management, including coordination with suppliers for maintenance, support and service delivery
  • Participate in on-call support arrangements as required.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across the M&E Domain
  • Provide support to M&E Domain Manager as required

PERSON SPECIFICATON
Education, Knowledge, Experience & Skills
Essential:        
  • A third level degree (Electronic Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or related discipline)
  • Minimum of three years’ experience working in an M&E infrastructure support role
  • Demonstrable experience and knowledge in M&E systems
  • Knowledge and experience of M&E system design, implementation and administration
  • Knowledge of M&E monitoring, diagnostics and troubleshooting tools
  • Understanding of M&E system resilience, redundancy and high-availability design
  • Understanding of M&E plant and system interdependencies
  • Experience in system maintenance, upgrades and configuration management
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to work in a safety-critical operational environment
  • Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team
  • Proven ability to prioritise workload
  • Flexibility to operate in a 24/7, 365-day environment when required
Desirable:
  • Industry certifications (SOLAS / Level 6)
  • Registered Electrical Contractor (Safe Electric)
  • Professional engineering accreditation (CEng)
  • Experience with ATM/ANS operational systems or critical infrastructure environments
  • Experience working with vendors and managing service providers
  • Understanding of regulatory frameworks applicable to ATM/ANS
